What a brilliant show it was tonight . to start the new series. I loved the group that had only been singing together for a month, also the last act with the man swinging the elderly lady around like she was a doll and flinging her over his shoulder!I thought it was jaw dropping. Anyone else watched it tonight?

We watched it on catch-up after getting back. Was quite fun to watch. The opera singer was amazing, i agree- although not my kind of music. Nice for a bit of light-hearted fun, as we'd just watched a horror film at the cinema :-)
Yes...it improved vastly after the owl...which was hilarious in a strange way.
//For me, the young women who was brought up in Nottingham, has a troubled youth, but turned her life around when her mother sent her to Glasgow for singing lessons and performed an opera piece.//

This is exactly why I’ve stopped watching these programmes. The sob stories. It’s a talent contest – not a who’s had the hardest life competition designed to tug at the heartstrings. I got fed up watching people crying.
you're a hard woman Naomi. ;)
You think so? :o)
Thats one of the reasons I stopped watching it a few years ago Naomi.
So I'm not alone, tigger.
Ah...but sometimes that "sob story" is important,as it gives an insight into why that person is there, and what pushes them on.
It's interesting with a bit of background story, i think- although you wouldn't want it with every act, until the end.
Who cares why they're there? It's irrelevant. It's a talent competition - that's all. Unless they're crying with laughter, I don't find weeping people entertaining. If I want sad stories I'll watch Jeremy Kyle - and if you believe I'll ever watch him you'll believe anything. :o)
The main reason I stopped watching talent and singing shows was that I just got bored of them.
Yes, kind of a talent show- in theory- although also an entertainment show to make money :-). I actually prefer those that show the awful auditions too. Shows like "The Voice" where everyone is identically good, bore me to tears.
Georgiesmum, I didn't say I don't enjoy it, I actually like the show itself, just can't stand all the set ups.

typical example... Someone comes on and starts singing awful, Simon sticks his hand up and stops them, asks why they chose that song, have they got another blah blah, then as luck would have it they've already got one lined up and then blow the judges and audience away!

As for The Voice I only watch that through sufferance.
I agree completely with naomi24, why should certain acts have these sob stories attached? it is an unfair advantage against those that don't, the same could be said regarding "sweet little kid" contestants, I have always said there should be a separate junior version of the show.

Incidentally, I thought the dancing elderly lady, the opera singer and the boy group were excellent.

Can't quite see why Ant and Dec are in attendance.
It's not really an advantage -it isn't a public vote at this point.
I do not watch The Voice (I would rather view a recording of Jeremy - "what do you do with it - keep it in your pants" - Anyway Kylie has gone - she will be touring God knows where. Do not think she can sing anyway - bless us all. JJCon
Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to the rest of it.
Have just watched the opera singer from Nottingham, had me in tears so beautiful.
Liked the opera singer and the four boy singers. The couple at the end, as already said, have won the Spanish show. Too much time spent looking at the judges who apart from Simon are far too over the top. And and Dec are unnecessary, why does Dec keep looking behind him? The show is dated. Too many adverts, not enough acts, and seeing them in full. I wont even record it next week. And oh, by the way, and why exactly is it called 'Britain's' Got Talent? At least half them are not British.
