Telephoning Overseas Via A Uk Number So Only Pay Local Rates

My mate has a friend in Portugal and he has given her a number with a Manchester code (she is in Lancashire) and he claims this will get her through to him in Portugal and the call will be either free or the cost of a local call. How is this possible and can I do the same with my auntie in Oz?

Yes, there are numbers where you can do that. I had a friend staying who phoned someone in Majorca and was talking for quite a while. He gave me a pound for the call but I was half expecting a big bill but the call cost pennies. I'm not sure if it works outside of Europe but he is a long haul pilot (ie tight)! so it probably does.

There are loads of services where you phone a UK number which then connects you to an overseas number via the internet. Calls to Oz typically cost 0.51p per minute, plus a 15p connection charge. So a half hour natter to your aunt in Oz would cost you about 30p. Search for service providers here:

If you do not wish to use a computer then check this out. I have been using them for over 6 years now and never had a problem.comes in handy with relatives in Canada. 5p connection charge plus 2p per minute.so a 30 minute call cost me 65p. No complaints from me. Good quality too.
