How many characters do you recall who have left a TV series only to return played by a completely different actor ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Last week I noticed in ITV 's Emmerdale "Robert Sugden" returned after 10 years or more played by a different actor.

Red Dwarf: The Character of Kryten in the Episode Kryten, was played by David Ross. Robert Llewellyn then took over the role, but, David Ross re-appeared (Well, his voice did) as Talkie Toaster, taking over from Magician John Lenahan.

Dr WHO I think is a different situation ,all advertisements make it known that there will be a NEW DR WHO ,with all of the others each time the character appeared,as if by magic.
Emmerdale has had several exchange actors,I think either one of maybe both of the Sugden Brothers has changed,Jimmy and Nicola's daughter has not only changed but she has also aged quite considerable .

The lovely Peter Howitt who played Joey in Bread was replaced by Graham Bickley. Two different actresses played Aveline in the same sitcom....can't remember their names but I believe the original one has since died.

Just checked it out 2sp_ and the first actress to play Rose was Shirley Stelfox who now plays Edna Birch in Emmerdale.Mary Miller played the second Rose and it was this actress that died in 1998.
Also checked the one that Robinia mentioned from Bread, Aveline.
The first actress to play her was Gilly Coman and she died 4 years ago.The second actress to play Aveline was Melanie Hill.
