No wonder the Queen did not go
Michael McIntyre was an embarrassment as the compere especially at the start of the show..Sara Milligan was no poor. About time she had some new and better material
The coloured singer from South Africa and Alfie Boe were both very good.
Bette Midler-It's unbelievable that she only sung one song and as an opening act.Should have cut McBusted out and given her another 10 minutes
Miss Sagion was a great excerpt especially "The last night of the world"
Shirley Bassey is still terrific as per usual. Why did she not close the show.
The rest of the acts except Elle Goulding were very ordiniary and would be lucky to top the bill at Wigan Pier

It's all about popularity though innit?

For example, I'd rather watch Ellie Goulding than Shirley Bassey, in fact to be brutally honest i'd rather poke my eyes out with a rusty fork than have to see and listen to the "glorious" Ms Bassey.

That being said, I can't give an opinion to the Variety Show as I didn't actually watch it.

I agree gollob, I thought the billing was good , sat down to watch and was disappointed at the content. Bits of it was ok but an awful lot wasn't. Shirley is wonderful.

Shirley Bassey is a legend . I saw her live at the London Palladium about 35 years ago .

I suppose it's a matter of taste, as usual. I enjoyed the show, I have simple tastes - but I'd have left out Ellie Goulding!!!

Never watch it because 'variety' is not my idea of entertainment.

The rest I would not watch anywhere, so I spent the evening writing instead - far better use of time.

William and Kate must have been bored senseless but at least they made an effort to look interested. I would imagine they struggled to understand Sara Millican she sounds to me as if she is choking on a pasty,where she gets that accent from well God only knows, its not even Geordie as I had a housekeeper from Newcastle and she didn't sound like that. I think it should cease to be if HRH The Queen can't be bothered to go anymore. Variety died at the end of the seventies.

I was not at the battle of hastings so did not see it but might still have a comment to make about it .I never seen the particular programme but seeing some of the people mentioned I would rather be trampled by a herd of marauding mountain goats than watch them .

Variety died at the end of the seventies - thank goodness for that. Tarby and Brucie and Dessie et al being wheeled out on stage (probably literally these day) was always a total turn-off.

I enjoyede it for what it was, just simple variety, the best I've seen since is BOO's wanting to "poke her eyes out with a rusty fork" with regard to Shirley Bassey - I loved the lady singing in hte red gown - and just waited then for Alfie Boe

bibblebub isn't it strange how tastes have changed? I always had great affection for shows in the seventies, but with the exception of the great 'Dads Army' the re runs do not seem the least bit amusing and sometimes even cringe worthy. I used to watch the Good Old Days' when I stayed with my English Gran I loved it, I suppose you would call that Variety.

The whole idea of the show is to show variety, with something for both the young and the old - i loved the McBusted, One Direction and Collebro but fast forward the Shirly Bassey, and that is the whole idea of variety!! if we all liked the same thing the world would be a very boring place.
i can tell from what you seemed to be entertainment that you are an older person, that and the fact that you used the word 'coloured' to discribe someone of origin! - how politically incorrect is that!! Maybe next year, don't watch it! - i know that i still will and enjoy what i like!

Besides isn't the whole idea of the variety show a way of raising money, for the Queens Charity - so who cares.
