All that is known is it was on TV in the 1990's set in Scotland/North England the main character was a male trying to get home - the only scene that can be remembered is a dark Rainey night and the character stops at a cottage in Scotland where a woman lives she spends her time writing letters to companies telling them how good their products are for free sample returns- it was in colour I'm asking on behalf of a friend This is all he can remember and is very frustrated thanks in advance

I agree with earlier it sounds like soft top hard shoulder but I dont remember the letter writer - it is the guy from Dr Who and Richard Wilson I think is in it
