Mikey.....I hadn't seen this advertised and just caught it by accident. I am so glad I did....what a fascinating programme......not only what some people and their families have to go through because of an accident of birth but what they have to endure because of the utter, small minded nastiness of those who refuse to accept a person because he or she is...

I saw it advertised, read a summary of it and moved swiftly on.
Each to their own
I watch gransgender programmes all the time - I think I could operate on one.

I am gonna watch this = won't it be on channel 4 +1
no matter what programme I watch from little kiddies to elderly - how they hell do want their sausage cut off - is beyond me. They are deffo not mentally not right .

I didn't see it. His role as a fighter pilot meant he was brave in the service of his country. And his decision to take the path he did in civilian life was a brave one, too.

Balders...give it a try.......it may not be quite what you thought it was going to be !

Jenny...I would reserve judgement until you have seen the program...as above...it may not be quite what you thought it was going to be !
oh, what's it about (LOL)
Mikey.....I hadn't seen this advertised and just caught it by accident.

I am so glad I did....what a fascinating programme......not only what some people and their families have to go through because of an accident of birth but what they have to endure because of the utter, small minded nastiness of those who refuse to accept a person because he or she is different in some way....

Michael Dillon was worth so much more than all of those who wouldn't/don't accept him....yet how his life ended...so bloody sad.

We're quite cocky about expecting others to accept us as we are, warts and all.....but how we can mock and be cruel in a situation like this.....

And the doctor....Gillies....what a brilliant and brave man......the work he did with those damaged, deformed and burned during the first war....then to go on and help people like Dillon......and admirable man.

One of those programmes I'm so pleased I didn't miss.....x
I didn't see the programme, but read an article in the paper today about him. Jennyjoan, I don't think its about wanting one's sausage cut off. As a woman who feels like a woman I'd be traumatised if I found I had a penis, I'm sure you would too. That's how this man felt.

Gness...I am glad you enjoyed the program. I thought it was fascinating. What a sad end for Dillon, and I thought it was tragic that the Roberta was never reconciled to his daughter. Enjoyed you comment about being cocky though !
Was the surgeon the man who repaired terribly damaged soldiers by grafting bits of their arms onto their faces? I've seen footage of that before. I might go and watch this programme.
Question Author
Yes Cloverjo...the very same Dr Gillies !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Gillies
I am with Baldric.........gave it a miss.

Cloverjo...yes, Sr Harold Gillies of East Grinstead, the father of Plastic Surgery.
Was there a McIndoe or McEnroe also a pioneer in that field?
Yes sandy Air Archibald Mcindoe.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archibald_McIndoe
I think he was mentioned in Richard Hillary's book, The last enemy. But it's many a year since I read it.
Thanks, Mikey and Sqad. What a fascinating story. Must watch.
Question Author
Let me know what you think then Cloverjo !
I really felt for Roberta's daughter, Mikey.....and believe it or not I hadn't thought of my "cocky" comment til you replied.....just a word I use to describe folk a bit above themselves.......x
Question Author
LOL Gness !

I was surprised that none of Dillons family were involved in the program, although his brother disowned him apparently. Such was the ignorance of the day I suppose.
And not just of the day, Mikey.......we're still blighted today with the ignorance that will add to the pain already being suffered......x
