You know, I really enjoy these programs, and Portillo is an urbane guide.

But is there really no colour combination of jacket, shirt and trousers that he won't use ?

I really enjoy his programmes. I wish I had the courage to wear some of the jackets/shirts and trousers he wears!
Ah, so this isn't about train journeys it is about Celebrity Style/Fashion?
Just out of interest are you an expert in fashion, mikey?

Only see him on 'This Week' and he looks very smart imo.
Really enjoy his programmes - love the bright colours he wears.
Maybe it's so he doesn't get anyone sitting next to him on the train?

I think last evening's pink woolly hat was going a bit too far! and who else would travel about Europe by rail, with ten jackets and so many pairs of trousers?
We sometimes watch even repeats of repeats and it's always entertaining.
He has got himself the most lucrative retirement pension of anyone on the telly, these programmes will run and run and the royalties will keep rolling in, - oh boy!
I noticed in the last one that a couple of times his colours matched those of the flag of the country he was in but it may have been coincidence

I too thought the pink wooly hat was perhaps a step too far !
I'm fairly sure his personal fortune means he doesn't need to work. Did you know one of his middle, names is Denzil?
I love his programmes and I love the clothes he wears! I expect he likes people to know that he's not a normal run-of-the-mill gentleman!

Those jackets look like linen to me, so one of the production crew must be standing behind the camera with a steam iron at the ready !
His tailor is Volpe in Pimlico

HC...wow !...how did you know that ?

I have just had a look on their website and the stuff looks smashing...no prices though, but I could guess they aren't cheap. Its a good job that the probably don' make my size I suppose !
They make any size, mikey - they are bespoke tailors.
Question Author
HC...they would probably faint if I walked in the door !

How much do you reckon one of those linen jackets would cost HC ?
"His tailor is Volpe in Pimlico" Yes and they're all freebies too
- great advertising for them, everyone wins!

Depends on the material, mikey, but I guestimate prices start at £1800
He's quite flamboyant, isn't he?
