I think from memory it was about g/f and b/f, and i think recently married go to a house in an area where he originally came from when he was younger...odd things happen. They go down to local cafe which was closed by a lake and meet a friend from hus youth. Nobody is really about. A hat is by the jetty into the water at some stage, and at some point they go to this other house and there are aliens about..i could add more if u want

More info would be nice. Was it a colour film? Was it a UK film (think of scenes, money references - dollars, pounds etc) Any idea of production date or when you watched it? Describe aliens?

It sounds a little bit like What Lies Beneath, although I don't think there were aliens in that film. Yes, more information would be good.
