Anyone else really disappointed with this? Some terrible casting (Adrian Edmondson?!), poor directing and woeful acting - step forward Stephen Rea for a truly toe-curling 'posh' accent. None of it convinced me, I'm afraid; all rather embarrassing.

I thought it might be good for those after a bit of good old Sunday evening costume drama, but who weren't really all that stuck on Tolstoy. It got a good review from the times tv critic tho, which made me think maybe it WAS possible to turn a work like W and P into Andrew Davies/BBC ratings Plc and still capture the original
I forgot about it, tuned in during a 'battle scene' which had echoes of the Dorset hunt in fancy dress on a misty morning - about as epic as a gymkhana reenactment of the poll tax riots.
