I didn't see the first series, but after reading how much it has been enjoyed here, I have been watching it for 45 minutes, and I have no idea what is going on.

Samuraisan - I use subtitles most of the time these days, and think you might find them helpful. The dialect used is quite broad, and I agree, can be difficult to understand. Give it a try.
I found some of the dialogue difficult to understand, and I'm from Yorkshire!
Craft,

There has been lots of complaints in the media & on-line about the sound.
Thrilled it's back , great TV.
I found it hard to follow because of bad sound dialogue too.

It's very grim too, not sure if I'll stick with it.

Its mostly grim Up North Cupid :-)
I hadn't seen the first series either but will stick with it. For such high class writing and acting, I'm surprised the sound was so poor. Hope it doesn't continue like that for the whole series.
...and I do think that the title is a misnomer!
I thoroughly enjoyed this and the acting is top notch.

In the 1st series, what happened to the accountant who plotted the kidnapping of the bosses daughter?

Hellywelly, I don't think we have that option as we see it through a webserver. I will ask them.
It's absolutely fantastic! Worth catching up on the first series as it does really tie in.

I think the Happy Valley refers to the drug problems in the area.
I was worried about the sound as saw this article earlier:

Sounds like a general issue. I've increasingly had to use subtitles for some TV but found it ok with my laptop right near to me on catch up. My couple of years living in Yorkshire might have helped too :)

The accountant, Kevin, was waiting for his trial...We may learn more next episode.
Thanks Jomlett.
elliemay - the title is sarcastic!
The mumbling has made the papers!!!! Let's hope something is done before the next episode.

Perhaps that's how they all speak oop north ;-)
Brilliant stuff, again :)
Sadly I think the sound issue is broader than Happy Valley, i often struggle with BBC programmes, and I'm not alone....
