Are you watching this on BBC2? Families living as Victorians ..... hardly authentic when the rent collector (1860s era) says "Right then you GUYS!!"

Goodness you have to be clever to post on here haha.
I'm off to bed now, 'Thgindoog lla'.
I'm eighty six you know.

Saints preserve us!
I enjoyed it. As they weren't actors,I didnt expect authentic dialogue.
I'm now watching The Victorian Home on bbc4...with Jeremy Paxman. Looks at the home via paintings.
After so much effort had obviously been put into making it look authentic, it seemed very odd to have been using modern money. There was a similar programme about a year ago where various celebs had to live and work in 'past times' and do various jobs, and they kept all payment in the money of the time. The older man from the slum who did the day working in the foundry earned £10, which just sounded wrong in the context of the programme
I assume they'd raise to price of goods to match. They might earn £10 but that isn't much good if the rent is £9.
They've used modern money to help us understand just how much (little) they earned and how much things cost.

10/6 doesn't mean anything to many viewers
