Are you watching this on BBC2? Families living as Victorians ..... hardly authentic when the rent collector (1860s era) says "Right then you GUYS!!"

I don't think they expected them to speak as though they were in that time.
I'll watch that on BBC iplayer tomorrow.
anyhoo I thought the Victorians used to do a moonlight flit the night before the rentman came.

But that expression stuck out like a sore thumb Mamya - maybe because we dislike it so much and never say it ... same as tbe boy walking in and saying OMG! Also do you really believe they actually lived in those victorian slummy rooms and spent all night in the beds .. or just 15 mins of filming then back to a hotel! Cynical old me!!
They are expected to live like them not change how they speak.

I enjoyed it anyway..
......not just the Victorians, Yont, if my Grandma was to be believed.
I know, Yilly.
I haven't heard that moonlight flit expression for years, Yont. Thanks for the memories.
An expression my granny used to use, Yilly.
Did she say someone was doing a 'foreigner' when they did some work for someone, outside their working hours?

It was an interesting programme especially as I do family history using the census information from the 1800s so I knew about many of the trades mentioned. I only thought it would have been more authentic to have used actual language of the day.
Do you two not realise that people who are new to this site will be confused about this Yont and Yilly nonsense.
I don't over analyse those types of programmes Ann,I just watch and enjoy.
Question Author
Yes I am puzzled too .... have I missed something?
No.
Do you mean me and Yont, Ummmm?
I doubt that Yont and I will be confusing many newbies, Ummmm. We hardly ever speak to each other.
Question Author
Who is Yont? I thought Yilly was just a typing error so I'm now confused! Please explain Tony! ;)
It goes back to thread that Tilly posted a long time ago, Ann. If I remember rightly it was about writing ( posting ) names backward.
.....except I got it wrong....but it stuck. So, Yont it is instead of Ynot.

Sibs produced Ynot.
