The reason (we were told) that Bake Off left the BBC was that the makers - Love Productions - were asking £75 million for three years' programmes. That's £25 million per year! There are only two presenters, two judges and the contestants are, by definition, amateurs; so, even if there are, say, 25 programmes in each series ( I think there are fewer than that), that's £1 million an episode, for a baking competition in a marquee in a field. That's Game of Thrones- type costs!
