In view of the utter car crash that is the BBC's 'vision' of Drivetime, they need to be really really careful to get this right.
Of course, that won't stop them making another total mess of it, thanks to their ongoing perception of whom the public want, as opposed to whom the actually want - Patrick Kielty again springs to mind!
What they may do is give it to Cox or Ball, both of whom have filled in, and in my view are dreadful, Cox failed miserably at Radio One's Breakfast.
What they also may do is give it to that personality-free guy from Strictly, who will ruin it, or the execrable Craig Charles who hopefully will refuse because he is a night bird.
If they are clever, they will offer Simon Mayo whatever he wants to do Breakfast, it will get him away from that harridan at tea time, and give the listeners a safe and secure future as Breakfast fans.
There is a clear choice in Mayo, but the BBC do like to think that 'Auntie knows best …' God help us!
