Did anyone see those distressing photos in some of the tabloids yesterday? i think ITV made a mistake getting rid of him and the "femail".They were far better than rent a gob Matt Chapman who is an absolute irritant.If they needed to replace McCririck then surely there was a better option than Chapman.

People get old, people get ill, what are you going to do?

As far as we know he wasn't ill at the time.People do get old and do retire but ITV could have found someone better to replace them and in fact their programme is rubbish except perhaps for Francesca Cumani and Oli Bell

It was not ITV it was Channel 4.

And it was because production of the racing program moved to another company and they did not want to use him.

This happens all the time, many presenters are dropped or changed after a period of time.

Think how many different presenters there have been of the News or the Weather or on Breakfast TV.

Or do you still want Michael Fish (aged 74) doing the weather?

I'd far rather Michael Fish than some of these grand standing forecasters they have on there now who almost jump out of the telly at you when they tell it's going to rain.Then there is Lucy Verasamy whose arms go like a windmill so much that she ends pointing at Kent when she is talking about Northern Ireland.It's Carol Kirkwood for me always smiling no matter what and just gives you the forecast.

Having said that don't like to see how he is.. he looks quite ill hope he gets better soon.
Tv racing is better off without him he had his day. Quite agree about matt Chapman could be mccriccks son got the same gob on him.

John McCririck was a classic example of a presenter who is 'of a time' - and of course, time moves on.

At the height of his career, his eccentricity and cartoon chauvinism (underpinned by an encyclopaedic knowledge of his craft) was what appealed to racing audiences, but times and tastes change.

All presenters have a shelf life - and all programmes do as well, if they didn't, we would still be getting the news from Alexandra Palace by brylcreemed men in evening dress.

Mr McCririck's time came to an end, his contract was not renewed and he foolishly sued his employers for a case he could not possibly win, and has been sulking about it ever since.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

Sad to see him not looking good, but, an absolute horrid man. A real boring old so and so whenever he was on.

Ummmm, i know Andy can stick up for himself (and will probabbly do so) but he did not say he was 'a man of his time'. He said he was a'presenter of his time' and, on that, i totally agree. Personally i loved and loathed him in equal measure. On the one hand he would stick up for us punters, berating the bookies for shortening odds unnecessarily, especially when a rule 4 situation looked likely. On the other, he would often shout at young children who stood behind him at racetracks, waving at the camera. Whatever ails him, i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy and i hope he gets better soon.

Ken - I don't watch the racing. I only seen him as a kid when I didn't really understand anything about it.

My views of him come from reality shows and he came across as an awful person.

Ummmm - As advised, I was careful to say that Mr McCrirrick was a 'presenter of his time' because I believe that a lot of his on-camera image was a construct, I think he exaggerated himself in his way of dress, his mannerisms, and the 'personality' he constructed which was largely a caricature.

He may or may not have been like that in 'real life', but whatever, his time has gone, and as I said, I wish him a speedy recovery.
