Have watched this film a few times and watched it again last night.However last night I googled some of the characters and was surprised how many liberties were taken with the truth.
I watched it on release and that's a couple of hours I won't get back - i think it's one of the worst films I have ever seen.
But as douglas shrewdly advises, film makers never let historical accuracy get in the way of a good plot and film.
This week, go and see Mary Queen Of Scots meeting Elizabeth - when in fact they never met, and hear Mary speaking with Scots accent, when she grew up in France, so her English would have had a French accent, not a Scottish one.
Braveheart, a load of Gibson baloney - far better film the same year in terms of the yarn, the acting, the swordplay, the music and the Scottish scenery was Rob Roy - Liam Neesen, Jessica, Lange, John Hurt, Tim Roth etc...
