Apologies if already a topic but I just heard he is retiring from the today programme.Perhaps now with some time on his hands he could be persuaded to do Eggheads as well as Mastermind.He certainly be an improvement on that slime ball who does it now.

Never met him personally but I know he used to visit Cinderford(his home town) when his Mother was still alive and I have never heard anyone say anything bad about him.
The only problem with Jimmy Young as a presenter was that, in common with Terry Wogan, he started to develop a method of speaking that made it sound like he was from another planet. It got worse as he got older, and eventually, it was time for him to go.

As for him being 'nice', he was very badly behaved over his departure, refusing to enter Broadcasting House if he knew Jeremy Vine was there, much less wish him well as his successor.

People's opinions of Jeremy Vine are what they are, but there was no excuse for Young's petulant rudeness, Vine didn't sack him.

good example of the medium and not the message - Dimpbleby was another overblown specimen
