I suspect more people want to watch a Live Wimbledon match than a repeat of Homes Under the Hammer or similar. Last night was to accommodate a semi final in the women's world cup, and the TV audience probably justified it. I find enough other channels to watch when Wimbledon's on for just 2 weeks a year

fiction-factory, it isn't just Wimbledon though. It's football and other sports too. Sport seems to take precedence over everything else.

I'm not sure that they have change dtheir schedule for Wimbledon though- Wimbledon is on every year for two weeks and they to some extent build their schedules around it. I don't see what's wrong with that even though I rarely watch Wimbledon.

To me it's good that those on terrestial only channels can see some top class sport for no additional cost to the viewer rather than Sky/BT getting it all.. The Cricket World Cup is a major event in cricket but only Sky vieweres can see it.

True, ff. Wimbledon is a permanent fixture and it comes around once a year. Therefore the programme schedule for the 2 weeks it is on is not interrupted. The World Cup, be it men's or lady's, comes around once every 4 years and the BEEB will show all of England's games on the main channel while broadcasting other nations on the minor channels. Obviously, the better the national team are doing, the more schedules will be interrupted. Yet, when totalled, the hours of live football broadcast by Aunty is a mere drop in the ocean. Those who get the huff over this rescheduling should realise that we sports fans pay their licence fees, too.

I think it’s acause most bbc programmes are awful and the Beeb think ah nobody will miss them .Would be interesting how much of the over 75 year old licence fee will go to covering wimbers .

I suspect that BBC make a profit from Wimbledon by selling the pictures to all the other tennis-loving countries. France, America etc may put their own commentary on but the pictures will have to be bought from the BBC.

Don't remember that one, PP, but i do remember Martina Hingis's debut Wimbledon appearance. Each time she served, it really did appear that she had either gone commando or had simply forgotten an important item of underwear. A point the Sun picked up on - who else? - and for the rest of her involvement in the tournament she wore passion killers.

Wimbledon tennis is the biggest attended sporting event in this country . They have had many offers by sat companies for much more money but they have stuck with the BBC. There will be plenty more moans if they lost the broadcasting rights.

I think there are alternative channels on Freeview while the BBC chase the large discriminating audience.

I am quite surprised that anyone actually spends much time watching BBC TV. I think it's dire. A bit of live sport seems quite entertaining compared to most of their programs. There are so many alternatives - i.e. all the other TV channels, DVD's and books. Anyway there is far less sport now then there used to be- live golf, cricket etc has mostly disappeared from the schedules, so I don't really see what there is to moan about.

Wimbledon is enjoyed on the BBC by many people, including those who don’t follow tennis at all for the rest of the year. I don’t think 2 weeks a year out of most of the dross is too much to ask.

Wimbledon is fantastic. Forget the darts, snooker and golf which have many more hours of BBC coverage over the year than Wimbledon.

the Beeb have lost a lot of prestigious sports over the years, horse-racing for example.
If they still covered those lost sports then the schedule would be re-arranged more often.
