I was so disappointed in this episode compared to last weeks offering. The story line was IMO totally absurd. Her gambling partner left her without food, money, household items. First step , police to report stolen items. Especially as she had children , child care at social services. No family especially with children would be relying on bread and jam for dinner. Surely that’s what we have food banks for ?

It was good and well acted I agree, but like Anne I found it frustrating that she didnt seek any help either in terms of benefits or other support for her and the children.

I thought it was far better than last week’s episode (I kept waiting for something more last week). If you’re in the *** like she was, the last thing you’d want to do is bring yourself to the attention of the authorities - it seemed to be a short term situation.

I too kept saying ‘she has to call the police/social services’ - but I think people deal
with situations differently. A single mum, two kids, no money -
maybe in that situation we would be reluctant to involve the authorities.

On the contrary Naomi , I’d think we would be only too happy to call the authorities. Anyway I couldn’t enjoy the acting as the story was too far fetched....... pity .

In that situation my first thoughts would be the effect bringing in the authorities might have on the children. She was doing her utmost to maintain a semblance of normality for them.

I can see both sides of it, but does enquiring at the food bank or asking the Sally Army for a sofa, equate to Going to the Authorities? Maybe it does .......

Its difficult to know what someone would do in that situation. I'm not sure how long food banks have been around for but they seem more prominent now than ever. Maybe some people who are in a dire financial situation aren't aware of them. And how do you meet the criteria?

One thing that I questioned was whether she could turn to her parents. I know she said she didn't have any relatives but nothing was mentioned about her parents or her relationship with them.
