I don't normally bother watching films on TV any longer, its pretty obvious that producers have one goal in mind, to cram as much violence in as possible in the hope of capturing an audience.

In view of what's been happening in the news over the last few weeks, out of curiosity I watched what I knew would be a violent film, ( Dog Eat Dog ) Nicolas Cage, and it didn't disappoint as regards to the appalling violence at the very beginning, of a knife stabbing frenzy, along with a shooting, and the violence continued throughout the whole film.

The other film also I watched was ( The November man ) Pierce Bronson, again relied on knife stabbing, and continued violence. Is it a case of, you make your own bed, so sleep in it?
Also I think that Mary Whitehouse back in 1963/64 was very advanced in her thoughts, and condemned / opposing such violence on TV. These films are not doing us any favours getting violence into the minds of already unbalanced individuals, are they?? Your thoughts would be welcome.

Me too, RR. My dad used to leave me, my younger sister and stepsister with a pile of horror films and go out for the night when we were very young. I haven't committed any violent crimes yet. As I expect, the majority haven't... although I will wait for teacake's statistics to see.

Sex, violence, infidelity, debauchery.....all the ingredients for a money making film.
For violence present day style, look to a generation that put two fingers up to respect, authority ill/no discipline and the virtue of hard work, dedication as a route to success.
Don't blame the film industry.

Sqad, sometimes authority is necessary, but it is not always right. A generation who prefer to think for themselves has to be healthier than blind obedience- that is so rarely necessary nowadays.

I'm not a huge complainer on these pages and I certainly am not one who posts about the decline of society constantly. Any increase in violence will have many root causes, I doubt fiction is a prime cause.

Violence has been declining for a very long time, in spite of a higher population. I think we need to look elsewhere for the actual causes.

I agree to a certain extent that actually seeing violent scenes is more disturbing than actually just reading about them. A few years ago the film and TV industries were called to task regarding the impact that violence on the screens was having on young people. It was thought that a lot of young children were beginning to think such actions were the norm. So maybe teacake has a valid point .

I don't.... the vast majority of the population can tell between fact and fiction from a young age. It is why we can watch these things and not copy and why we get jokes without being offended, because they aren't "meant"
I have no doubt that there are people unable to do either, but that is within them, and how far would you need to go to protect everyone everywhere?
