Anyone see the first one of these on Gold? Funnier than most of the sitcoms on today, and Kevin McAnally and Robert Bathurst were both spot on as Mainwaring and Wilson. Good effort.

Not impressed. Perhaps I'm just too familiar with the original cast.

They're huge shoes to fill.
They are, indeed, Mozz. It must have been a real dilemma whether or not to remake the episodes. We'll watch the other two episodes as the script was good but filling the shoes of the original cast is an impossibility.

I'll continue watching as well. I thought Bathurst was note perfect as Wilson. I do hope the other two episodes give the other four characters something to do, as this wad basically Mainwaring, Wilson and Walker.
I too was not impressed. But I still watch the reruns. I was also not very happy with the makeup and wigs it seemed to me that very badly made wigs were just stuck on top of their heads, were they meant to look like that intentionally ?
I've not seen the new versions but it's worth noting that the 'lost' programmes aren't actually completely lost anyway. The programmes were re-recorded for radio by the original cast (except that, following the death of James Beck, Graham Stark and Larry Martyn both played the part of Joe Walker).

So if you want to hear what the original cast sounded like in the three episodes that have just been recreated by Gold, click on one of the following links and click on the 'Play' button. (There will might be a few seconds delay before the episode starts playing)

Thank you BC, I'll check them out, but I think I'll watch the new versions first to give them a fair shot. (I have ep 2 recorded and will watch it tomorrow)
I was sure I'd seen tonight's episode several times over the years. The storyline of Private Frazer getting promoted and causing chaos was extremely familiar, though I had thought he'd been promoted to sergeant to replace Wilson who had been made captain in Mainwaring's absence.
I think it is so unfair it's on Gold. I love Dads Army and watch it every week, even though I know each episode by heari bet most of the fans are unable to receive thes new episodes.
^^ heart!

I thought Gold was on Freeview, I'm obviously mistaken.
The two "lost" episodes so far have just not been good enough ! There is no way that the original characters can be copied ..... too much overacting !!! ;o(

Because Clive Dunn was never guilty of that. ;-)
I thought the recent film was excellent - I was very sceptical and had to be persuaded to watch it.
These lost episodes aren't bad at all. Good effort.
Over acting ....... that was the main part of Clive Dunn's character ...... not the rest !
