Watching Downton Abbey From The 1St Episode

We only got into it in the later episodes so time to watch from the beginning before seeing the film

I watched it just to see Maggie Smith. What a brilliant actress!

You do not need the full story to enjoy the film. It's a sort of new series compressed into one long episode, so you'll be familiar with all the characters, although it's perfectly enjoyable as a stand-alone without any previous knowledge of the story.

Always loved this excellent series. We also liked Gosford Park and The Shooting Party. Got the lot on DVD in our house including the Downton Abbey Christmas specials.

I would encourage someone to watch the TV series - but having seen it I wouldn't want to watch it again.
