Inspector Clouseau - he might catch me in the end, but there'd be some fun along the way.
Lord Peter Wimsey. Sensitive enough to think about emotional motives and doesn't give up at whatever cost and time elapse.
Mind you, I wrote 2 short stories where I reckon my murderer would have got clean away with it (a long-term challenge by the writing group) and one got published.
D.I. Laffyn...
William Murdoch
Sherlock Holmes.
Bob Louis and David Briggs (Carrott & Powell).
It would be a great laugh and I'd probably get away with it.
Jane Tennison ( well if I'm gonna end up in handcuffs ) ;-)
Morse as played by Sean Evans
Mr Whicher (I know he was originally non-fiction, but he expanded)
Jack Frost
Anyone from my local Nick.
They couldn't catch a cold!
Margret cause I can’t spell his name
Maigret
i would go for either Sherlock Holmes or Morse
Inspector Gadget.
For reasons only I know.
If you want to know, hire a fictional detective to find out.
Would I least want to show up?

Well, he's a cop rather than a detective, but Judge Dredd. It would be a swift sentence, but I'd rather go to jail.
Be ready to take on the role of female dog Mozz.
Doubt you'd be cock of the roost;-)
Probably the team from the blacklist, although I could get some time with my weird crush..... Really like James Spader as Red Reddington
Dexter
