Just visited my local post office.
Only 3 allowed in at a time.
2 metre spacing until called to the counter.
2 counters open.

Completed my transaction and then asked
''Why do you have 2 metre spacing in place''
''To protect the public''
''Then why have you opened 2 counters, next to each other, and I am now only 2 feet away...not 2 metres away...from this customer at the counter next to me''
''Erm''

And of course meaning the two workers were too close to each other as well!
Hope they immediately shut the other counter. (sarc)

Theres 6 counters in total, couldnt make it up.
I said something like that yesterday, Nailit. When I pay my bill in the supermarket I'm just a couple of feet from the cashier. Still, nothing's perfect and we shouldn't expect it to be. No doubt the shops etc are doing their best. I'm just pleased they've stayed open.
A local post office with 6 counters?
Sainsbury's are putting screens up at the checkouts apparently.
Most supermarkets have erected screens between cashiers and customers.

Its a main post office but MY local post office, IE, I live near it :-)

I dont get that either naomi, 6ft spacing all around and then a couple of feet from the checkout operator?
My local Co Op has erected screens, but they are not really fit for purpose, already falling apart and are now held together with packing tape.
Nailit you are separated by a screen though.
Not from the customer at the next window Tony, which is the point being made.
Ok Lynne point taken, I had misread OP, agree if there are that many windows, surely they should open one that can achieve spacing.
Well, nailit, rules is rules. You have to have people in any one queue 2m apart; the rules don't say anything about adjacent queues (but common sense might).
In the Co op the cashier and I did a strange dance where she backed off while I put my stuff on the counter. I went back to the cross on the floor. She did the swiping. I went forward to put my money on the counter while she backed off. I went forward to pick up my stuff and she put the change in my hand!
Does the virus stay on money-coins,notes,cards,Etc.?
Clover guess we are fortunate that they are remaining open, all be it with certain restrictions limiting number of people in store at any one time.
Of course large numbers of the population are still unfamiliar with metres despite the metric system having been taught in schools for about 40 years or more. Colloquial measurements are often still made in Imperial, the USA uses it (sort of) all the time
and even the under 30s still use inches more accurately in daily life than centimetres.
When I was at school we had 2 designated lessons, 1 to metrication, the other to decimalisation. As for measuring I use both Imperial and metric depending on what I am doing.
Saw that surviving Chuckle Brother in ASDA today. He was walking toward me so I had to stop him when he got too near. I said, “Oi! Two metre, you!”
Think post office are trying to stamp this sorta thing out new directive in other words postal orders
