Been watching Normal People and, while it is excellent, it is also dark and depressing. I find that with much of today’s pop music too - Adele, Ed Sheeran, Snow Patrol, etc. Even today’s comedians don’t give me belly laughs like those I grew up watching. No decent sitcoms on telly now. Don’t you think too much of today’s youth culture is too bloomin miserable, or is it just me?!

Most people feel that things were done better in their generation when they were younger. I've found loads of things I enjoyed over the years.

Things that I loved during my childhood/teens:
Blackadder
Red Dwarf
Duran Duran
Prince
David Bowie (70s stuff mainly)
...some more I can't think of atm

Things I loved during my 20s/30s:
Radiohead (very dark/depressing)
Coldplay
Friends
The Office / Extras
Keeping Up Appearances
Animal Hospital (obs before the RH scandal)
Ground Force
...some more I can't think of atm

Things I like now:
Anything with Ricky Gervais
Fleabag
GoT (final season was a bit meh)
The Walking Dead
Nordic Noir / Scandi Dramas
...some more I can't think of atm

Aren’t those Nordic Noir / Scandi dramas dark and depressing?
ummmm: "Never liked The Two Ronnie's and such like. " - why doesn't that surprise me!
Yes but then I like dark and depressing :o)

I was a bit of a Goth in my early 20s.
what does that mean TTT? I didn't particularly like them either (and I think I'm about the same age as ummm) Not sure if/why you are being rude?
pixie: "Alice Cooper was fantastic :-). And Blackadder (other than the first series), I sometimes cried laughing at. " - sorry, is there a sitcom called Alice Cooper?
He's always rude to me. Heartbreaking it is :-)
There should be :-). No, I was just responding to other people.
ummmm is a professional contrarian, this is no reflection on liking or not liking something. If I am positive about something you can pretty much guarantee that nearby there will be a post from ummmm espousing the opposite view.
"Heartbreaking it is :-)" - gawd she's turned into Yoda!
gotcha, I wasn't quite sure if you were criticising people who don't like the 2 ronnies or not.
You're paranoid, TTT. Or it could be that I generally not only disagree with much of what you say but also how you say it. Trying speaking English.
I'm not the one doing a yoda impression.
Well folks, some interesting names there isn't there? But everyone has missed the funniest one and that was Rab C Nesbitt. See that? See that? It was so funny to me because I used to work with a gang of lads
'frae Govan'. What an experience! Rab C Nesbitt all over, the lot of them!
Ummmm can like whoever they please 3T. I can't stand some of the most popular sitcoms of all time. Never a fan of One Foot In The Grave, I found Keeping Up Appearances completely unwatchable and (unpopular opinion coming up) I never saw the fuss over Only Fools and Horses.
for 10cs:
I've never watched Star Wars :-)
//I've never watched Star Wars//

I retract my support, that's just unacceptable. ;o)
Rab C. Nesbit never appealed to me.

Mrs Browns Boys doesn't appeal to me either. Just can't get into it.
Lol...I've seen bits. Bloody boys!
