There are going to be 12 of these monologues on BBC1 - 10 old ones rewritten for new actors and 2 new ones. I'm really looking forward to them- I thought the originals were superb.
There are 2 this coming week - Tuesday and Thursday.
I very much enjoyed the originals, especially Thora Hird's A Cracker Cracker Under The Settee. I'm glad they are not re-doing that one, it could never be improved
Really looking forward to these too. I read them when they were first written and saw the original TV series, I might reread them this week before I watch the new versions.
Brilliant Rosie. Thanks for the (Talking) Heads Up;-)
The originals were excellent and I'm sure these will be as good if not better.
I needed something to look forward to. Thank you again.
Imelda Staunton is doing A Lady of Letters, which Patricia Routledge did originally. There is a wonderful line in it where she is critical of a Jehovahs witnesses shoes. He says that “Jesus would have worn trainers if he were alive today”
“Not if his mother had anything to do with it!”
Classic!
I'm looking forward to it too. I remember the Thora Hird and Patricia Routledge monologues and hope these new ones will be as good. Just hope Sarah Lancashire doesn't mumble like she does when she's acting.
Each one is divided into three acts. They begin quite gently and, gradually, their situation is revealed. It's an interesting journey to someones personal horror.
It's thought provoking rather than depressing, I would say.
