When were you there, Lady J.

We had an international exchange student come over to London who was one of the Guggenheim family, a tiny guy physically, but one hell of a trumpeter. He used to go down to Ronnie Scott's to play there....so my trips in were with him......This was 1980.

When it first opened DT. Late 1959 onwards. Very casual and I even helped out behind the bar sometimes. Some really great jazz and jam sessions. Often went to school from there so we always took our uniforms with us to the club. Innocent days.
LJ - As a student in London from 1963 onwards, I couldn't afford to go to Ronnie Scotts or even the Marquee. Somehow, I took my then gf, now wife of 56 summers, to see Basie at the Hammersmith Odeon. (Now, Apollo?) Magical. I'm not really a big band fan, but that was wonderful.

Did you ever go to Jimmies Greek (Cypriot?) restaurant. IIRC it started off south of Old Compton St, next to the Australian Wine Centre & shifted to the other side of Old Compton Street later. Probably Greek St. or Frith Street.
History of Ronnie Scott's 9pm ITV2 tonight

Satprof. Used to go to Jimmies with another school friend who was Greek and used to go to stay with her and family most weekends. After we both started work we used to meet up there for a meal once a week until she got married.
