Just watching BBC Breakfast and her interview with Gavin Williamson.Now I don’t care much for Gavin Williamson but how rude of her to be talking over and interrupting him.

I remember one interview in particular when he took Jack Straw to the cleaners. I don't like the mouthy interviewers of modern times and their constant talking over, but I suppose it is entertaining.

I remember one interview in particular when he took Jack Straw to the cleaners. I don't like the mouthy interviewers of modern times and their constant talking over, but I suppose it is entertaining.
One thing we must remember is that politicians know full well that all interviews are 'on the clock'. Therefore, when they are asked a question they particularly don't want to answer truthfully, they adapt their default setting of party mantra. And the interviewer will instantly recognise this within the first few words of the answer. So they cut to the chase, so to speak, and repeat the question. True, some do come across as rude, when they do it, but the politicians can be just as rude by their complete disregard for the questions asked. In my most humble opinion, of course.
I’ve lost count if the number of times an interviewee has been asked a question and simply answered something else. As Ken says, a good interviewer will spot this and cut in but the interviewee nearby always “wins” in the end.
Oddly, one if the most frustrating interviews I’ve heard was the normally excellent Andrew Neil and Nazi scumbag Nick Griffin. Neil’s interviewing style was understandably aggressive but actually counterproductive, as it allowed the subject to entrench, be aggressive back, and look like the “victim” which of course is exactly what these people want, rather than be asked serious searching questions.

Totally disagree, Emmie. If an MP has been asked (and is fully aware) on the programme to answer questions on a certain subject, he/she should answer the questions. Many of them don't, preferring instead to start listing all the things his/her government have already done. And quite often, none of them pertinent to the question. So the interviewer will ask again and the MP begins the list again. What is the interviewer to do but insist on an answer to the question. And the only way they can stop the Party Political mantra is to talk over the interviewee.
I agree Ken. I don't catch breakfast news much lately, but when I did regularly watch, I was constantly frustrated by the endless waffle and persistence in not answering the questions presented. I'd be silently shouting "answer the question please, your time is running out!"

She was reprimanded last year for making comments (valid in my opinion) on the incident where he suggested 4 black female politicians to' go back where they came from '.
She should take a leaf out of Sky's Kate Burley who asks pertinent questions but at least waits for a reply before politely asking the interviewee if they could actually answer the question please!

The problem with breakfast tv is time.
Interviewers have literally minutes to get information so they have to press hard.
Add to that, they usually have a studio director in their earpiece shouting about the next question - so it's not always the presenter being as rude as they first appear.
Masters like Brain Walden usually had thirty minutes rather than three minutes- ample time to eviscerated the flannel and elicit proper answers.
