Channel 5 promos proclaiming Home Alone as “the greatest Christmas movie ever made”. Do you agree and, if not, what would be your choice?

It's a Wonderful Life and Love Actually - although I wish they hadn't included the porn actors' story in Love Actually. It's a great film that leaves everyone smiling but those scenes make it unsuitable for children.

No one can say which is greatest - we all have our own tastes after all, but for me Home Alone certainly isn't it.

My favourite is the 1951 version of Scrooge with Alastair Sim [not the terribly colourised version], followed by It's a Wonderful Life.
Bobbie22, if that's the one where the kid checks into a swanky hotel in NYC, Donald Trump has a cameo role in it. By the way, did you get that film developed, and, if so, any interesting photos?
I think that's Home Alone 2
That's the one, jno, I've watched the movie but I don't remember seeing Trump. I read that he owned the hotel and the deal with the producer of the movie was that he would allow them to film there, obviously with payment, as long as he had a cameo appearance which lasted for about 15 seconds or so.
you may have seen one of the versions circulated by Democrats and Fake Newsers, sanmac

Here is a clip of the scene:
1) Wonderful Life
2) A Christmas Carol
3) Arthur Christmas
4) The Polar Express
5) Love Actually
Mr Grumpy says
I cant think of any film I would say
"hey I will stay in for that !"

oh carm aaaaarn
the fella has to live

What constitutes a Christmas film ? If it just has to be one that gets shown at Christmas then that's the same as opening the range to every film made. In which case the Bond films and the Great Escape are due for yet another run. They may be overly familiar but beats those mentioned so far into a cocked hat.
I'm a big fan of Love Actually, especially when the Emma Thompson character realises the necklace her husband has bought as a gift isn't for her, but my favourite Christmas film of all time is Scrooge played by George C. Scott. It's been on and I flamin' well missed it!
Definitely A Christmas Carol
For iliuvmargie - George C Scott version is on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve at 12.40 and C4+1 at 13.40. Also on Christmas Day on More4 at 12.50.
many who might have watched Its a wonderful life don't get that its' not really a Christmas film, but it is one of hope in the face of adversity. The central character is going to commit suicide, hardly cheery stuff, because he can;t see a way out of his troubles until an angel comes to his rescue, by showing him what life in Bedford Falls would hav been like had he not been around.
Its a wonderful life.

Die hard
Home alone

Does anyone have a young relative who sees the cute Macaulay Culkin and thinks - hey I can do that !
but not turn out like Macaulay - or be a friend of Michael for that matter
and they go around reprising Macaulays best bits - the scream by Munch for example
and things like Latin vocab and times tables go by the board?

and by 13 they are spotty ( both genders ) dont know any Latin and cant multiply

I blame Macaulay C - and look how hes turned out - such a pity!
Die hard involves some one of my age ( Broothey that is!) trying to get into bed with a girl who is younger than his daughter innit?

and then he contorts like the girl and we all go ow!
errr no PP the woman is older than he is!
also, Bruce willis was in his 30s when die hard was made - not your age (i think!)
