Pointless

Alexander Armstrong has just sung the programme out at the end.
Am I missing something, I don’t think he can sing at all, seems very self indulgent as he appears to think he’s wonderful.

There are many areas of art where someone can succeed with a massive audience, because they are not expert, and their expectations are very easily met.

An excellent example is someone like Paul Potts who was canny enough to choose Nessun Dorma for his big number before everyone else did it, and he carried the audience along on the emotion of the song, regardless of the fact that an expert will advise that he is not a particularly accomplished technical singer.

But that doesn't matter, because his audience are not looking for expertise, and may not actually know the difference if they heard it - or even care anyway.

The same appears to apply to AA who has an audience who will like him because it is him singing, regardless of actually how good or not a vocalist he is.

It's not my area, so I can't comment with any level of knowledge or expertise, but as I say, it doesn't matter because people like him, and how he sings, so he does fine out of it.

All art is subjective, and one person's entertainment can leave others absolutely cold.

If you think he was bad, try listening to Nick Knowles, he has released an album, well it wasn't released, it escaped, it is awful, self indulgent ***, if you've ever watched David Brent of 'The Office', singing 'If you don't know me by now', then you know what I mean!

He is just as good as a lot of another singers out there

Me I can't see what the fuss is about - he is less than average singer .

One doesn’t have to be a good singer to appreciate a good singing voice, in the same way one doesn’t have to play football to appreciate a good game, or be able to draw to appreciate a great drawing.
Of course it’s subjective, one mans meat and all that.

A standard - but always pointless - rebuttal to any criticism is 'Could you do better?'

Invariably not, but as advised, ability to do something better is not required in order to judge anything either in art, or in life in general.
