Tipping Point / Sign Language

Not overkeen on Tipping Point or its presenter, but it’s recently been made more difficult to watch by the addition of a ‘signer’ in the bottom right of the screen.

Have I pressed a ‘settings’ button on my Virgin box, or has everyone now got the signer, whether they want her or not?

This is NOT an ‘anti-sign’ post; I have defective vision, so understand the need, but I’d also like the option of a clear screen.

Record it on ITV not ITV3 as itv3 is the repeat channel
Most of these dramas were originally broadcast on ITV or originates from ITV Studios.

Allen, Tipping Point is not on ITV at 4pm, it is 5pm. As it is New Year's Day it is on at 3.30pm today.

Martin, Tipping Point is a quiz show and is not on ITV3 (but it is on channel 3 on ITV, just to confuse Allen)

To be fair, Tipping Point is normally on at 4pm followed by The Chase at 5pm.

"103" is the Virgin channel number. ITV HD is the channel...


I'll do a similar shot (maybe even a video!!) of Tipping Point at 1530.

if you have "tipping point" on to record, unless you've set up the recording in detail on virgin, it'll record all episodes no matter what channel/what time The sign language ones are often the repeats.
to the perrson who said about reading subtitles, literacy levels amongst deaf people (who've always been deaf) is traditionally low, so sign language may be easier

Thanks bednobs, but believe me, I already do all that. I am 99.9% Virgin STB literate...

ok. then answer me this - why are they called an STB when it's very unlikely they would fit on top of anyone (with a reasonable modern telly's) set? :0)

They're not set-top boxes; they're side-top boxes (i.e. you put them on the side...)

are terrible - average reading age of always deaf is 6 y - it may be 8 y
that is age not y at school.
There is a growing number of once-hearing ( tel que moi) - and they get better by on SAE - sign assisted english - and tend to reject the idea of a deaf sub-culture

the thing being that the deaf frrom birth dont acquire grammar

so learning BSL its just recognising a series of signs.

and is virtually impossible to sign.
and no I dont want to get into the Sapir whorf hypothesis

I must be mad but I am sat n front of my TV with my Virgin box switched on to channel 103 waiting for Tipping Point

Well, I did what I always do, and my only explanation is that they must have DROPPED the signer for 2021 onwards...

Otherwise, I AM going barmy, and we couldn't have that, could we.....

Trust me the Signer has never been on the programme in this time slot. This episode is repeated at 5am tomorrow when the Signer will be doing his or her thing.

Why do signers have to pull silly faces while doing it?

It helps to express the emotion behind the sign, and also some signs have more than one meaning so it helps to differentiate the meaning.
