Tipping Point / Sign Language

Not overkeen on Tipping Point or its presenter, but it’s recently been made more difficult to watch by the addition of a ‘signer’ in the bottom right of the screen.

Have I pressed a ‘settings’ button on my Virgin box, or has everyone now got the signer, whether they want her or not?

This is NOT an ‘anti-sign’ post; I have defective vision, so understand the need, but I’d also like the option of a clear screen.

I haven't got Virgin but I sometimes find a signer is added when a programme is repeated. Anyway

What actual virgin channel do you watch it on Allen?

I watched a programme on catchup and it had spoken 'subtitles', presumably for the blind. Things like "views of rolling hills, a flock of sheep grazes in the sunshine"

If you are watching the 5am episode it has sign language. You need to watch or record the Tuesday evening episode which doesn't have sign language.

I don’t really understand the need for signing these days, when nearly every program has subtitles. I do see the point of audio description, which I turned on by mistake on Sky once.

margaret, sign language is far more expressive than subtitles and a more natural way for many deaf people to communicate. It's good they have the choice.

I can sign myself but I find it off putting when there's a small square bottom right if I'm watching something,Nicola Sturgeon always uses a signer when she's addressing the Scottish people

I watch it on ITV3 HD at 1600hrs.

Allen that’s repeats your watching the original does not have sign language on.

Allen, if you watch it on the main ITV channel at 4pm Monday - Friday( channel 3 or 103 freeview) (not ITV3 which is a different channel full of repeats found on Channel 10 Freeview) it does not have sign language.
If you watch it on ITV Channel 3 or 103 at 5am Monday to Friday it DOES have sign language. Are you watching it live or recording it?

However, as, unlike you, I don't necessarily think I'm right (!), I'll cancel all planned recordings, turn off Series Links, etc., etc., and this afternoon at 1559 I'll come to the TV and record the damned programme, and see who's wrong...

Barry: I watch it on the main ITV channel, Channel 3, nothing fancy, just as it comes up (1, 2, 3, 4 etc).

However, (see last post to martinmillar) I WILL make sure today that I do what I am SURE that I already do, and report back!
