Panorama, Fly Tipping Out Of Control.......
31 Answers
anyone see this last night? OK here's an idea. The councils were complaining about the costs of cleaning up etc but they charge all but private households to legally drop waste at tips etc. So surely one thing that would help is if it didn't cost a fortune to dump waste legally. Surely any money they take from legit waste clearers is more than offset by having to clean up after the fly tippers.

Our council charges £75 to collect up to 3 large items. Their tips now charge for most DIY materials e.g. chipboard, plasterboard , kitchen units etc etc and then they wonder why fly-tipping has increased.

woofy, getting a license is very easy and, as the program highlighted many of them are the ones doing the fly tipping. They basically charge less and fly tip it keeping all the cash. For example, they hired a licenced clearer to clear out a garage. They reckon it should cost £200 but the guy charged £120 and then fly tipped it.
Samuraisan, my council is choosy what it will take and charges more than the local licenced businesses do.... I was refused collection of a dog car cage as it wasn't "a household item" and had to more or less swear on bended knee (over the phone!) that a filing cabinet had only ever been used for domestic paperwork. Both metal, both scrappable.
Dudley Council is as clear as mud about its charges. I challenge any of you to tell me how much they would charge to collect one large sofa and two armchairs.
