I confess I am mystified as to why a black actress was cast in the role.

If it is, as may suspect, to make some utterly pointless right-on woke point about equality, then it is ridiculous.

Making a point anywhere at any time only works if your point is what people see, hear and remember, and not the controversy surrounding it, that drowned out your message and made sure only the controversy remained.

My view is that I have no real opinion either way - I am sure the lady will aquit the part perfectly well, and I will try not to be distracted by her ethnicity, and let it spoil my enjoyment of the drama.

My wife on the other hand, who is a serious student of history, and can spot an inaccuracy several miles off, may well struggle with the notion of a woman who was clearly and undoubtedly white skinned, being portrayed my an actress with black skin, with no discernible improvement in conveying the history or the drama being portrayed.

Andy, I disagree that controversy should matter. No progress is ever made without some.
In my view, particular individuals portrayed, to be realistic, should look as close as possible. This isn't just a "queen" but a particular individual.
However, I can't imagine I would really notice for more than about a second, so- as long as they can act, it doesn't really matter.

Acting, of course, is very important. However, of much greater importance is portrayal... Anne Boleyn was not black.

I've always been fascinated by history and attracted to reading books and seeing it brought to life on film and tv. Authenticity in a portrayal is everything for me. Anne Boleyn was not black. The clothes are authentic because that's the way they were at that time in history. I imagine the wonderful Driving miss Daisy would not have been the same if Michael Caine had played the Hoke Colburn character so beautifully underplayed by Morgan Freeman. It's history,just accept it and dramatize now and in the future

I'm not sure it's meant to be believable. It's like the recent "The Great" show. It was a fictionalised version of real life characters. This is meant to be much the same- a work of fiction.
