Since BBC have so much money to give away as borne out by the latest episodes of Pointless where contestants attempt to add to the jackpot, I would much rather see see this part of the show scrapped and the money saved go to free licences for the over 75's!!!!
What do you think???

Then the show would indeed be 'Pointless'.
I like this round and the contestants quite often don't get a pointless answer so it doesn't make that much difference to the jackpot
they need to increase the prize money in my opinion, it's already micky mouse compared to the Chase.
I like your description of 'so much money' - IF they discover both pointless answers, they get £500 which seldom happens and IF this was achieved 5 days a week, it would amount to £2,500 - drop in the ocean towards the millions it costs. And why assume that all over 75s need a free licence.
quizzes in general are cheap to make. The contestants get no fee, the jackpot often goes un-won and there are no smaller prizes. If you want to fund free licences then can the expensive stuff like football!
You would presumably be complaining much louder if the BBC was producing "Who wants to be a millionaire"!
The BBC don't pay the prize money anyway. The show is made by Remarkable TV, which is a subsidiary of Banijay, who make everything from The Crystal Maze and Tipping Point to Peaky Blinders, Grantchester and Wallander. While the BBC, as the commissioning broadcaster, will obviously have a lot of input into the programme, they will simply pay a fixed fee for its production, with Remarkable picking up the bill for any successes achieved by its contestants.

Given the overall costs of creating TV programmes (with costume dramas, for example, coming in at around a million pounds per hour), a few slightly higher prizes are just a drop in the ocean anyway.

The cost of providing free TV licences to all those over 75 years of age would, in just a few year's time, reach a total of one billion pounds per year. That's a hell of a lot of quiz show prizes!
If you want to save some serious dish, get rid of Graham Norton. He used to be funny, but he's past his sell by date.

Oh, and we don't need the overpaid Gary Lineker any more.
That's being charitable Hopkirk,I don't think Graham Norton was ever funny.I like Gary Lineker as a presenter but agree his salary is way over the top.
I can't stand Graham Norton, his laugh gives me the creeps!
And the BBc are still paying Bashir £2000 per week
er use the point money for free licences - yay !
one of the more sensible suggestion on AB this week

you do realise when theyy flash up the £1,267 to play for ( 5 mins of their time at their rates) - - its not £1,267,000 - - - or
£12 670,000 .... dont you ?

cost is around £750 000 - golly those OAPs watch a lorra telly end of ( thank you TTT) - and waaahaaah - thats a lotta pointless bonuses (look like Judge judy looking like a suprised ruminant)
booloo £750 000 000 - 3/4 bn
waaya yya a yaa - that is a lot more lodda lodda pointless points
