Female Pundits On Men’s Football
68 Answers
I wonder how the number of people wanting female pundits on men’s football compares to the number of people who (like me) don’t want them. Are there as many male pundits on televised women’s football? I suspect not, but am prepared to be corrected

Well I am female and a football supporter but I actually came on here to ask exactly the same question! Really find them irritating and whoever thought they were being inclusive has got this one badly wrong.

Since the incorrect "could of" and the correct "could've" in written text are virtually indistinguishable in spoken words, this is unsubstantiated nitpicking for the sake of it IMHO. Anything to reinforce an already flaky argument.

I think Jim has a point. Not everything "sexist" is wrong, sometimes, it's just accurate. When it comes to entertainment, it is partly about enjoying the commentary and preferences- and if the majority prefer a male voice, it makes sense to use one.
Just like we use Alexa, Cortana, Siri etc because we prefer female voices for help, maybe male voices suit commentary better.

Not sure if you know but there is male, female, then different accents for all of those devices. Just because you don't know how to change your voice or accent for your digital assistant doesn't mean "that is their voice".
By even caring about the male or female aspect is what's wrong. Some men just can't accept the fact some women know more about football than they do. What fragile egos.

You have zero IQ if you think their voice is the reason why they're up there. It's their knowledge in the field. Evidently they've succeeded to a position not many others could.
Get a grip of your lives if this is the kind of thing that affects them. Good luck to your daughters or granddaughters growing up is all I can say. You tell them what they can and can't do because thy are a girl and what their voice sounds like. I hope they kick you in the shins :D

Let's grant this but even then it comes down to social conditioning rather than anything objective. Until recently, all (or virtually all) commentators in any sport were men, so that's what many people are used to. When, also, most world leaders were men, that naturally leads to this sort of subconscious association, that male voices are authoritative and female/feminine-sounding voices are not. But it's only an expectation rather than an objective reality.

It partly is Jim, yes. It may be that people need to get more used to it- or that it would work better to use male commentators on male sports and vice versa. It's a business, for making money and entertaining. And it does make a difference "who" it is,because they lose money if they call it wrong. It's not like saying they shouldn't have female accountants- where it makes no difference.
"Otherwise we would just use knowledgeable robots to state the facts."
You think a robot can assess a match and commentate on it in real time? You sound like a mad person. Anyhow, as you just stated these "robots" usually have male or female voices still.
We get your point, you can probably leave it now before you look more silly.

When a team (not Scotland) is launching a promising attack the excitement builds to a crescendo resulting in a goal. (or not, see Scotland )
Despite all the voice-coaching a woman's voice starts at a higher register, thus as she approaches her crescendo the inevitable screeching starts.
These are facts and no matter how 'right on' you are, no matter how desperate some of you 'men' are to impress the ladeez, they remain facts.
