Such a great film,Naomi.I dont cry at films,but when Joe Gargery says to Pip"what larks,Pip,what larks"i cry like a baby.Surely the best British film ever made.

Dickens created thousands of characters for his novels,but none as caring and thoughtful and loving as Joe Gargery.

Some roles/films withstand any attempts at remakes and this is surely one of them, a sheer delight to watch.

I really think with some films they shouldn’t even try. I recall watching a remake of Little Women where the girls were saying things like ‘yeah right’ and ‘as if’. Those writers should never set pen to paper again.

Probably the greatest Dickens screen adaptation. Alec Guinness' first speaking role on film. He speaks of it with great fondness in his autobiograpy.

The only time I seen it was on the last day we broke up before Christmas one year at junior school, many decades ago.

No idea how the head got a copy of it or thought it a good idea to show it.
