Jeremy Paxman is stepping down as host of University Challenge after 28 years .Any thoughts on who might replace him?

Oh please, just not Sandi Toksvig!

Very seriously - Prof. Mary Beard.
Impeccable intellectual and educational qualifications; experienced in T.V.; not scared to say her own thing and also pleasant and relatable. i can't think of anyone better suited - and I was considering several others including Victoria Coren-M. (who might, I decided, frighten the contestants too much).
I think the woman who did the Prince Andrew interview would be good. Emily Maitlis I think it was.
I have given this question a lot of thought, and whilst I appreciate the many witticisms herein, I offer up a serious answer. A man with intelligence, gravitas and television experience. A good speaking voice is the gift of George Alagiah.
Am I supposed to be scared of your husband Prudie?

You appear well-matched - his preposterous machismo and your thin skin, at least you are both not spoiling two other couples.
I think Ros Atkins would be good

I also thought Kirsty Wark but they probably want someone who will host for a long time and stamp their brand on it
What a nasty post to Prudie AH. Don't you think she is upset enough?

Of all the suggestions so far, I think Reeta Chakrabarti would be the most suitable: intelligent (Oxford degree), professional and I think she would just 'get on with it', without trying to impose her opinions or try to make herself into a 'personality'.
I thought Ros Atkins for the same reasons (but Cambridge educated)
Ladybirder - I don't appreciate being threatened.

If Prudie is "upset" by my response to her nasty post, she is clearly too thin-skinned to interact on a site like this.

My previous interactions with her prove that she is more than capable of giving as good as she gets, don't be fooled by her fainting Victorian lady routine, it's utterly false.
Andy Hughes?
He seems to think he knows the best.

Hmm, maybe not!!
A completely outside the box suggestion - Kevin Ashman from 'Eggheads'.
Stephen Fry, I think would be a good choice
What about having two and split the screen like they does with the teams .Tom Bradbury and Jane Hill .
actually ros atkins would be good - good suggestion!
Perhaps he's not quite sneering enough though :)
It has to be someone with gravitas, a light entertainment host would not do it.

Hopefully they would not consider the living caricature that is Ann Robinson for that reason.
Fiona Bruce is being highly tipped apparently. As is Amol Rajan. Neither would be my choice.
Must admit I'd never heard of Ros Atkins. Had to Google the name.

To be fair, anyone but Ann Robinson. I don't mind her but I just don't think she is suitable for the job. Not sure why though.
She hasn't the gravitas tiggerblue. Her speech isn't the clearest as I found watching her on Countdown and she would finish each show with her annoying wink.
Yep, I agree.
