No mention anywhere of the best comedy, Blackadder Goes Forth. Last of The Summer Wine was useless. I could never understand why people thought it was funny. Cos t'weren't.
Anyone seen the detectorists? Bit niche, gently amusing.
Blackadder 2,3,4 all brilliant.
Blackadder was my favourite. The best ones were those that had Rik Mayall. The noble Lord Flashart. "Lets all gather round and talk about ME!" The "Private Plane" episode is a classic.
The final scene of Blackadder Four is just wonderful.

When they filmed it, the director wanted a retake, and the cast all refused, saying that the pyrotechnics were too dangerous.

That meant they were forced to use the take they had, and freeze-frame it, fading into the poppy fields, which has to be one of the most moving and poignant pieces of television ever seen.
Love Blackadder 2, 3 and 4. Queenie for Queen!!
As has been said, humour is subjective. While I could never get into comedies such as Father Ted, Last of the Summer Wine, Dad's Army, i quite liked The Royle Family, OFAH, Detectorists, and absolutely loved Fawlty Towers, MPFC, Blackadder (all of 'em) and the first few series of MBB.
The Office!

Choux. I am getting on fine. I am now walking without the crutches and hope to go back to driving and work in about three weeks.
I found them uncomfortable watch at the time, I don't like comedy that is based on characters who are unaware they look foolish, the biggest examples of that being Fawlty Towers, the Office, and only fools and horses. It's probably due to my being wired a little differently. I did however like things like drop the dead donkey, and the earlier red dwarf episodes.

The comedy of embarassment is a singularly British trait, and it's absolutely not for everyone, but for those who appreciate it, it's wonderful.

But of course, as we know, humour is subjective - I know people whose opinions I would always normally respect, who tell me that Michael McIntyre is funny!
Bob & Rose was a gentle comedy with a fabulous cast, underrated in my opinion.

The American Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Frasier, Veep...
Rab C Nesbitt. Aw rite annat?
I prefer to see things like QI, where the humour comes from strange areas. Or where it's very black humour in drama series, lots of dark humour in series like the Blacklist, and Breaking bad, where you want to laugh but know you really shouldnt.
For me some laugh out loud moments in Lie to me, Banshee, and Lucifer, I think it's why I have been known to laugh at funerals, something clicks that switch.
Not only do tastes vary obviously but so do we as we age. I used to cry tears of laughter at Fawlty Towers, Some Mothers and the Goodies, now I don't find them funny at all. The type of repeat humour that still makes me really laugh now is Catherine Tate, The Office, Friends and some bits of Only Fools & Horses.
That is true, Prudie, but I have to say, Fawlty Towers can still make me laugh.
I remember seeing the film The Party, with Peter Sellars, years ago. I thought I would split my sides laughing. A few years ago, I ordered the dvd. Well, I hardly laughed at all, the second time around. Just goes to show how our humour changes over the years. :-)
In more recent years the outstanding comedies for me has been Early Doors, Two Doors Down and Still Game. I quite like Kate & Koji and Mandy.
I enjoy QI, too, Rowan and think Sandi does a fair job of hosting. Fry was getting a bit cringe with his seemingly constant references to 'young choirboys bare botties'.
I can't see a 50 year old man getting away with leering comments about young schoolgirls in their PE kits
The great comedy mystery is Terry and June running for 9 series and 65 episodes. How did that happen?
