Really enjoyed this series, they revived it a while back but I would like more.
What tv shows would you like to see remade in the original format?

It was a real eyeopener!
The bit where they run along a plank and jump down looks really small, but TV distorts everything - it's actually the height of a first floor window!
And the final run-up, which looks like a gentle slope on TV is about a 1 in 4 gradient.
They offered me a chance to have a go, I wisely refused - I knew that contestants undergo a few week' training to get them fit enough, before they attend the filming.
Apparently the previous week, they had a journalist from the Mirror who was foolish enough to take up the challenge - when he got to the end, he threw up, then fainted!
I asked the Sargent Major, who was a couple of inches shorter than me, but built like a brick outhouse, why he shouted at everyone as they went round the course?
He advised me that because they are so full of adrenaline, they can't actually hear unless he shouts.
I asked what happened if they froze when it came to the big drop?
"That's when I stop shouting, and start talking nicely." he replied with a smile.

Looking at douglas's list, i wouldn't like any of them 'remade' in any format - they are all of their time, and would not stand up to the sophistication of modern audiences.
I recently watched a few re-runs of Til Death Do Us Part, and although I appreciated that Alf's breathless bigotry was ground-breaking in its day, as was the stand-up dingdongs he had with everyone around him, to my modern senses, nothing actually happened.
They shouted, that was it.
Apart from the masterful comedy timing from Dandy Nichols delivering her putdowns, there was nothing to sustain my attention at all.
Television moves on, we appreciated those shows as they were at the time - remakes would be a disaster all round.

barry - // That's very interesting, thanks, Andy. I'm always curious as to how shows are made. //
You're welcome.
I never noticed with the assault course section, that week after week the weather was always exactly the same - because they filmed the entire series sections over two days.
// I believe the TOTP studio was very small //
So I understand - never been, sadly.
