....an affront to justice! I hope every one of the victims get every penny in compensation for what they have suffered. I'd like to see some of the PO board prosecuted too, surely there is a case for perverting the course of justice. That evil woman, Vennalls is a vicar FGS! So much for christian ideals, unbelieveable. Alan Bates should get a knighthood.

Absolutely wonderful TV production, superb acting, stunning, 10/10.

Please don't post me other links about this I know they are there, this is my post, don't join in if you just want to snipe at me.

Mr Bates is a man of honour and integrity which is more that can be said for that pious ,god-fearing hypocritical lying female dog who kept her CBE. She should also be defrocked and given a fast track to hell.

Hard to understand the PO's motivation. Why not just admit the possibility of error when the number of cases became clear?

Question Author

Well that's the big question JDavis. I suppose they just didn't want to admit that the Horizon system was full of bugs. So they did everything they could to make it look like thousands of sub post masters w=suddenly because dishonest.

Maybe they just didn't want to admit they had spent millions on a system that let Fujitsu interfere with all the terminals. So far I reckon Fujitsu have many questions to answer and appear to be letting the P.O. take the full wrap. If compensation is decided then Fujitsu is culpable in this miscarriage as well. One very reluctant and scared whistleblower was the only corrobrative evidence in their involvement.

TTT - no one wd snipe at the little sweezie - I think he is thweet !

but....I do wish he wd analyse more .

a. we have had one ABer who said - I ran an excel prog in parallel and never had (another) problem ( but  no  further information)

b. https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/bates-v-post-office-judgment.pdf

Bates of Bates Motel sub post office  is here, I er discovered

c. The first time that discovery that discovered the glitch as used was the pregnant sub Post mistress who went to prison - - and there had by that time been hundreds of cases and convictions.

d. why the post office, caught out, just didnt give up

e. why around half havent claimed the compensation they were entitled to - whereas many more who were NOT prosecuted have

but instead we get the usual TTT " fing ding down dong, dont slig me off please"

I have been looking into what some of the indy IT guys are saying about the bugs in the system. Basically, schoolboy errors, they employed a load of clueless coders to bash out a very poor version of the original spec. They should have hired some proper analysts and programmers to convert the spec into a solid reliable accurate system. That which would be befitting for a national institution of 40000+ terminals. The spec for the system was fine it did the job but sadly they implemented a poor facsimile of what it should have been.

agree Jay Dee

So far I reckon Fujitsu have many questions to answer and appear to be letting the P.O. take the full wrap

.... is  nothing to do with the civil cases against the P.O. which hinge on the P.O. knowing their evidence was duff and pleading it wasnt ( I think)

Judges usually scream and throw their furniture around when they find they have been lied to. ( ( Ruper Allason libel case, West mids police corruption, R v Molloy ( enhanced costs) - or Shipman ( worked at Pontefract and there are no notes, why dont we add 24 to his total?  15 then)

but the scandals come from cases where they are unwilling to budge

( IRA bombers, Lane 'the longer this case goes on'  - Denning " let one out, then they must let them all out - a terrifying vista" - Matrix Churchill - "Mr Smith of MI5 doesnt exist". he did)

is this really a random process ? in a complex case, things will fail every now and then

Basically, schoolboy errors, they employed a load of clueless coders to bash out a very poor version of the original spec.

yeah but no but

that doesnt explain ( diff code) whiy it lasted so long  without being examined

That's all very interesting Togo.  Thanks for posting.

can the mods stop arrissing around with posts when they contain data or info?   Deletion for not being mimsy ( rule 1) hides an awful lot of " deleted because I just dont like what is being said" - and is not in anyone's interest

PP can't you go and play with the traffic or something.

It is not often that ITV come up with something based on fact that is exemplary in its execution. I commend whole heartedly everyone associated with this series. Beautifully understated in its dramatisation. I pray that those responsible for the Horizon debacle are brought to justice and that all the victims live to see it and receive adequate compensation and the time to enjoy it.

I'm  ot sure what your posting abou Peter and why you posted my answer.  I had just read Togos post and really did find  interesting.  What do you think it had to do with mods

Sorry about my lost letters.  I obviously tap letters but sometimes not strongly enough.

But I'm really puzzled and want to know what you're on about!

I agree with you choux.  British film making at its finest.

lottie: "But I'm really puzzled and want to know what you're on about!" - let me know if you ever find out. The guy writes total rowlocks, has never made any sense. No idea why he is even allowed on here.

PP can't you go and play with the traffic or something. (TTT)

oh heavens TTT how insulting etc ( scream scream scream) and to think the original poster wrote:

don't join in if you just want to snipe at me.

oh oh TTT -look it was YOU !

[ I have been involved in:  " look, X happened, but we dont want to tell the lawyers..." and my response has always been - "when this gets out, we will all be fired". Luckily there was always a whstle-blower

when Trump ( ah bless!) said "  now we will go peacefully down to the capitol."  one of his lawyers added "and we all go to Prison"

Don't agree with our honours system at all but interesting to note that the OBE Alan Bates refused ranks below the CBE awarded to Vennells.

well I did ! go and play in the traffic - internet traffic that is!

is worth a look and the new one

and the documentary along with the post office drama is worth a look....

//Hard to understand the PO's motivation. Why not just admit the possibility of error when the number of cases became clear?//

My guess is that if they'd have admitted the system was faulty and conjuring up non-existent deficits, they were worried about people seeing that as an opportunity to steal money and blame it on the system.

old bill have stirred

increz jno that the police have previously just shrugged and continued with their cross words.
