....an affront to justice! I hope every one of the victims get every penny in compensation for what they have suffered. I'd like to see some of the PO board prosecuted too, surely there is a case for perverting the course of justice. That evil woman, Vennalls is a vicar FGS! So much for christian ideals, unbelieveable. Alan Bates should get a knighthood.
Absolutely wonderful TV production, superb acting, stunning, 10/10.
Please don't post me other links about this I know they are there, this is my post, don't join in if you just want to snipe at me.
So even now in the age of AI, algorithms and intelligent machines we use 'dumb boring' computerised systems every day and trust they are right, BUT sometimes they are not. If it's a 'small insignificant person' vs 'the system' the system wins, as it's 'too big to fail'. As TTT knows only too well, a system is only as good as it's programmers millions of lines of computer code, even these days often COBOL (ancient programming language from the dim and distant past).. companies don't want to invest in new systems so continue with the old systems complete with potential bugs/faults.
Countrylover 'Superb! Amazing acting. Toby Jones is one of my favourite favouite actors.' I agree with all of that! :O)
TTT thank you for posting, as you say this is YOUR post. Well done for posting it.. I think I speak for everyone when I say we want to see justice done, wait and see what happens.. but don't hold your breath. (comment - post spoiled in places by the usual suspects bickering.. but otherwise well done ABer's).
My guess is that if they'd have admitted the system was faulty and conjuring ........ steal money and blame it on the system.
yeah that came up - the drama demanded that the P.O. changed its defence a number of times, whereas I am not sure if that is the case
they went thro a phase of " yes there are bugs, but you have to show they are the cause" is an OK manouvre ( sort of yes it is true but not the cause so irrelevant)
The PO was able to act as investigator, accuser, judge and executioner in this travesty without police involvement, no organisation should have this level of unaccountable power. At the simplest, did no-one ever say These subpostermasters have had a perfect accounting record until the introduction of Horizon, why have the discrepancies only started now? What's changed?
but then in the drama, they moved onto " we know the bugs did it - but lets not tell them" which is kinda high risk stuff. ( and someONE at least shouldda said, no we cant do that)
Loolee Venal CBE to my mind, obviously get off. She writes " I have to be able to say that remote access is not possible ( = I obvioously think/thought it was) and so can you assure me...( = tell me what I thoght was obviously true is in fact not true)
and voila she can say she had no idea at all for 10y - and she is off.
and then Mrs Venal says: "and we cant compensate those convicted because we would be paying off convicts for chrissakes..." and there are gasps - You lied to us!
is a matter of ENglish Law - it doesnt allow you to do that. I would have thought everyone knew from the get-go
The PO was able to act as investigator, accuser, judge and executioner in this travesty without police involvement,
depends on the supposition that everyone acts within the law. and in the good old days anyone cd being a criminal prosecution ( days before the CPS)
The energy suppliers can do that with credit defaults - on credit reports, say that someone is in default without a court finding. but they acted pretty fast when I alleged that thro their negligene they had affected my credit rating.
I as suprrised when 93 convictions were overturned, NONE of th lawyers referred their clients cases to the police
perhaps they thought they had ALL been acquitted on a technicality - or their clients said " no really we have had enough of British Justice thank you"
