Why are all these tv celebs all copying each other. They all appear to be following the same format. Road trips in a van, coast walks, train trips, nature walks, wildlife in Britain, the latter their is very little of, but they keep banging on about how amazing our wildlife is, all in all the wildlife in Britain is pretty naff. Theres been one on tonight called pub walks, how ruddy boring tv has become. And tonight we have Sue Perkins who now decided to spread her wings on the .. Big American road. Its been done time and time again by other celebs??? :0)

Off the top of my head I can remember in the middle of Hove we get Bats, Badgers, Hedgehogs, Foxes, nest of Yellow Tailed Bumblebees, Squirrels of course, stunning Butterflies, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, Robins, Blackbirds, Bluetits, Great Tits, Herring Gulls, Crows, Sparrows, Jackdaws and the occasional Jay.  Oh and little mice occasionally.

Squirrels are no more than tree rats tha raid birds nests. Hence the declining bird population.

I admit Herring Gulls and Squirells can be a pain but not the rest.

Getting out more and watching less TV would help you to understand I think.

Wretched Cats are decimating the bird population. The one which lives next door to me spends most of the day sitting flattened on a shed roof preying on birds.

Absolutely. I am not for one moment playing the 'poor me' card, I am extremely lucky to be able to do what I do, and the advantages outweigh the disadvantages to the nth degree.

My point is that I have a 'holiday' that is not as relaxing as everyone else's holiday - but as you say, it is a holiday more than not.

I was merely illustrating that the notion of TV presenters having a 'free holiday' is anything but, and their circumstances are far more extreme than mine.

My wife used to work in Abu Dhabi for a couple of months a year, and she always got the 'lucky you, a luxurry holiday in the sun ... ' jibes as well.

She normmally worked a twelve-fourteen hour day, with metings and writing reports on top, as well as travel every few days, so no chance to actually settle in anywhere. But she loved the work, exhausting as it was, and never complained, but she never thought it was a 'holiday' either!

No, just the days when the ship is at sea.

My next schdule is ideal, we have five days travelling round the islands, and then six sea days as we traverse the Atlantic - the ship is coming back because it's the end of the season out there, so a lovely break, and then an intense 'work' period, but as I would say to anyone, I am seriously fortunate to be able to do it.

Absolutely, I am accept the comments as part of the job, even when more people than you would think are quite unembrassed when talking to me over the dinner table, and asking me how much I get paid! I would never be so bold as to ask a stranger that in oconversation, but for some reason, passengers seem to think it's perfectly acceptable to quiz Speakers about their travel, cabin allocation, payment, and so on.

I do, it's a factor of the job, and thank you, it is great, I am very lucky.

The biggest vermin on this planet, in my opinion, is the human.

I enjoyed my breakfast this morning watching the birds in the trees opposite.  We've got red kites nesting there, kestrels and lots of other birds.  I could sit and watch them all day without getting bored.

OldLottie, I've said it before and I mean it.  I would not be sad if one day everyone on earth suddenly died.  No warning, no panic, just died at the same time.  Well of course I wouldn't be sad, I would be dead, but the thought of it neither scares me nor saddens me.

Give this old earth a bit of peace.

First of all, it's not 'your thread'.

Originating a thread makes you the originator, it does not give you ownership rights, or the privelidge of saying who posts, and about what they post.

Second of all, I raised a point about TV presenters not actually getting 'luxury holidays' when they are working, and used my own experience as an example.

Other than that, my posts have been in response to other posters addressing my posts, which is how the site works.

If anyone else posts in response to what I have said, I will respond to them, and if I choose to post anything else which I wish to offer, then I will do so.

Hopefully you will rescind your notional 'ownership', which only exsists in your mind, and the thread will move along as it has so far.

Firstly, I don't believe I have gone 'off topic' and I explained why.

Secondly, my posts do not remain because I am a Moderator, they remain because any Moderator that has seen them does not judge them as contravening Site Rules, which is the sole reason why posts are removed, whatever constant moaners say to the contrary.

If you think my posts contravene Site Rules, or you simply don't like them, you are free to use the Report facility to advise the Editorial Team, who will assess your issues, and deal with them as they see fit.

Because I am covered by the Rules, the same as everyone else, as are my fellow Moderators.
