I've never seen his capabilities as an actor, but he'll be good if he has anything like the aplomb & style of Roger Moore, who seemed to me closest to the character portrayed in the novels.

//. I seem to recall that Commander James Bond was born of Scottish parents who were killed, I think, in a car crash when Bond was young.//

Not sure if I am imagining it but I think I read in one of the later, non-Fleming books, that his parents died on a climbing accident and that his mother was a spy who used their family travels to conceal her spying.

Just googled it, it was in Carte Blanche written by Jeffrey Deaver, no dafter than the original books!

I've never heard of this actor - but I stopped watching Bond films much after Roger Moore, who brought a sort of quirky humanity and humour to the part, so I don't know what the films are like these days and this chap seems to be about the right age and type.

I stand corrected about the fictional demise of Commander Bonds parent's. Thanks TTT and zebo for putting me right. Car crash or climbing accident they'll never go to heaven if they don't die first.

Never heard of this actor but he definitely looks the part .

There's a theory (fan theory? Conspiracy theory? I don't know) that "James Bond" is a alter ego for whichever agent is given the 007 role. I kind of like that, as it leaves the position open for whoever is best suited to the mission.

Of course, I have little investment in the movies, and even less in the books so it isn't something that would bother me anyway.

I think Chris Hemsworth would have been ideal, the voice, the muscles and the hunkiness for the ladies.

I didn't see the last film. However from the hints I have heard surely the next film will have an 007 who isn't James Bond.

Idris Elba could do that.

Question Author

hoppy that was already done in NTTD.

I've just googled NTTD and it seems to be about James Bond no longer being 007.

I was suggesting a replacement 007 who wasn't James Bond.

Question Author

yes in NTTD 007 is not James Bond.

A poster remarked...it would be nice to have a bit of diversity?? A BIT? We’ve had diversity rammed down our throats for years. Stuff your diversity where the diverse dwell. Fleming wrote the description of Bond that Henry Cavill would fit nicely.

David...would you feel the same if you were Asian...Chinese...Black?

Or elderly but everyone on telly is 1/3 your age?

pastafreak. The Chinese have their own national hero's often kung fu experts. The Indians have similar, black peoples liked their representation in Shaft. You can't have a white shaft, and Bollywood rejects white film stars. Leave us 007 with the guilt trips please. Horses for courses.

It should have been Henry Cavill.

Question Author

Sounds like it's still not decided, Cavill works for me.

Improbable blockbuster opening, dodgy titles, cut to London office where money, plane tickets and gadgets are handed out, another blockbuster set piece, all of the above interspersed with casual sex and rotten comedy.

James Bond will return in...

Rinse and repeat. None of it matters.

Does it matter that JB (a made-up character) is not portrayed as a 'white English bloke'? It's just a bit of fun. And he was just a Scottish bloke who was educated at Fettes.

Question Author

does any form of entertainment "matter"?
