How ridiculous to cast a black actor (Don Gilet) as the new Inspector in this.  Surely the show is predicated on a white man being sent to a world where he looks and feels out of place and doesn't understand the culture?

Oh, the dead hand of wokery.

Just seen who Don Gilet is. I like him, he's a great actor.

I think it will work. We'll see.

He may well be a a great actor (never seen him in anything) but casting him loses the 'fish out of water' premise, doesn't it?

I like him.  He will still be an incomer as far as the locals are concerned and can't see why he shouldn't be successful in the role.

He will still be 'a fish out of water'.

I do watch this but I think they are doing it to death now. St Marie must be the most dangerous place to holiday in the world!

Great scope for Dwayne, too.  He won't like the competition, being the cock of the walk he likes to think he is

It will put a completely different slant on the story. It's a black populated Island for god's sake. The fact that the English D.I is an outsider helps the story along. Although portrayed as a very astute copper he has to be helped out by 'the team' in local custom and knowledge of who the villains are (especially Dwayne). I have always enjoyed this series but looks like wokery will now ruin it.

A long way to go before it reaches the murder count in Midsomer, TTT.

And Oxford.

He will be a British DI

made me laugh the other week when DI Parker addressed a public meeting over one of the murders and he started by saying that Murders are extremely rare on St Marie!

I often wonder if there really are so many British, white ex pats living on these Caribbean Islands. I realise they are idyllic to look at with great climate and beaches but I read several years ago that Jamaica was like a war zone in the main casualty hospital in Kingston.

It's filmed in Guadeloupe, a French OT.  75% black, 11% white, 9%Tamil/East Indian, 3% Lebanese /Syrian.
