My husband reckons he remembers a show that was on late at night when he was really little (mid-late 80's) and a line was drawn across the screen and it might turn into a stickman or something. I think he mentioned the screen and line might have been red? He's the only person who remembers it and I'm sorry I can't be more specific but I don't know what he is talking about! Hope you can help :-)

sounds like 'The Saint' - played by Roger Moore and then Ian Ogilvie

I just rang him and he says that he knows what you mean and that it is a bit like that (tyhe theme at the start) but that it was only on for a few minutes at a time and wasn't the Saint, thanks anyway though we seem to be getting somewhere now.
I vaguely remember it, but can't remember the title. It was a part of a show - possibly sesame street? - rather than a show in it's own right. Started (i think) as a flat line, which rose up to form the shape?
Don't know if this is what your husband is thinking of but I seem to remember a similar series of animations that were just a couple of minutes long. They had a black background & a straight line that turned into a squiggly line & then a cartoon man (we only had black & white TV then - God! How old does that admission make me feel! - so can't confirm the colour of the line). If I remember correctly it was Czechoslovakian.

Can't remember what on earth it was called though but I hope that helps a little bit

Stoo_pid - I think that's it! I am going to look up czech tv, but was it czech in the 80's?
Sorry Natalie, really can't remember. I've a feeling it was more of a 70s thang but I've just spent most of my lunchtime Googling for it but with no joy I'm afraid! Good luck with this one..!
Ooh i remember that. It was an Italian animation by Osvaldo Cavandoli called 'La Linea', i think. Get him to have a look at this:

Click on the thumbnails on the right of the biography, he might recognize the drawings.
This was a brilliant show by the way, i loved it as a kid :-)
lil'frog, you genius. That's certainly the one I was thinking of (but why did I think it was Czech..? Sorry for the red herring).
