Really old film

Does anyone know the name of this film? A man and woman marry but the man's mother doesn't approve. They have a son and eventually the mother drives the woman away and she goes to live away. She has a lot of problems and eventually ends up killing a man. She gets a lawyer who turns out to be her son. She knows it's him but he doesn't know it's his mother. She dies in prison before/during the trial. There has been a remake of this film but the child is a daughter. Can anyone help?

Mmm, sounds a bit like Madame X to me, with Lana Turner as the mother, but I'm not sure if there has been a recent remake...

Yes, that's the one. Now I know the title I have googled and there are several versions of the film. The last one was a tv remake. Thanks pressgang, you are a star!
