Did anybody see the Goodies documentary (repeated from Christmas), last night. Does anyone else think it's criminal that the 70 shows they did have not been repeated? We keep getting The Good Life, Porridge etc. all the time. Why not The Goodies?

Some shows age well (the ones you mentioned for example) but some are simply of their time and would look extremely dated today. 'Man About The House' for example was considered 'racy' in the 70s - a single guy living with two good-looking young girls? (nudge, nudge !) but it would look twee now.

Similarly 'Love They Neighbour' was supposed to be ITV's answer to 'Till Death Us Do Part' but its inferior scriptwriting made it appear crude and racist (even more so today) whereas in TDUDP we all knew that Alf was the butt of the humour.

By and large if you think of all the classic sitcoms that get repeated the're almost always made by the BBC. ITV only occasionally uncovers a gem that lasts.

For me The Goodies would now fall into the 'dated' category. Remember that that documentary showed you all the best bits, it wasn't all like that. If it was why don't you think that the BBC are showing it? - with so many digital channels these days they have plenty of airtime to fill.

Some parts of our youth are best remembered rather than revisited !

I can see where you are coming from, but for the BBC to actually dedicate an hour and a half revisiting the programme, they must have considered it to be of interest to a significant number of people. I doubt if they would give airtime to a documentary about the more forgettable Man about the House. I'm sure kids would enjoy The Goodies, after all it was goog, clean harmless fun.
You can now get The Goodies on DVD.
The BBC never forgave the goodies for moving to ITV even though they cancelled there show. It does seem odd to devote so much time to them and then not to air the actual shows
I heard there was a BBC executive who didn't like the show and wouldn't allow it to be shown again.

Obviously not the same executive who keeps recommisioning 2 Pints of Lager....
