80's monster film?

I seem to remember an 80's film that was about monsters that live underground and had a net work of tunnels leading up underneath peoples beds and a kid found the trap door and went down in to the monster world. any ideas what its called or any one remember anything like that or is it some warped dream i had as a kid?!

i remember one film where a clown lived underground and enticed kids to come down the drains by offering ballons to them, then once down there the clown killed them, dont know if its the same one.

sounds a bit like the plot in Monsters inc, but that was only in 2001.
There are loads of doors in the monsters world which connect to kids bedrooms and the monsters jump out of the door and scare the kids. The screams then generate power for the monsters world. But one little girl follows Sully (big blue and purple one) through the door into the monsters world.

You might be thinking of "Little Monsters" from 1989 starring Fred Savage. Available on region 1 DVD.

thanks but nah was'nt as bad as that def a PG and not CGI. was in the eighties! i must of been dreamin!

Yeah I remember it, I was about to post what it was too! Remember it being really good when I was a kid :P
