1979 - a year after it was first shown in the USA. It ran until 1991(356 episodes) and there is now talk of a movie based on the Ewings!

It was first shown in the US on CBS on April 28, 1978 but I can't find an exact date for the UK (even though - I'm stunned and ashamed to say - I can clearly remember that very first episode!) Try the message board at http://www.ultimatedallas.com/ - someone there may be able to help. Good luck.
